How To Perform
- 1 Adjust the seat height so the handles are at mid-chest level.
- 2 Sit with your back flat against the pad and feet firmly on the floor.
- 3 Grip the handles and press forward until arms are nearly fully extended.
- 4 Return slowly to the start position, feeling the chest stretch.
Form Cues
- ✓ Set the seat height so your elbows are at 90 degrees when handles are at chest level.
- ✓ Keep your back in contact with the pad throughout the movement.
- ✓ Focus on squeezing your chest at the point of full extension.
Common Mistakes
- ✗ Setting the seat too high or low — this changes the angle of press and can stress the shoulder.
- ✗ Using momentum and rushing the return — the eccentric phase is important for muscle development.
- ✗ Not reaching full extension — complete each rep through the full range.
Progressive overload is the engine of muscle growth. Track your weights and aim to add small increments weekly. For Machine Chest Press, this means gradually increasing load, volume (sets × reps), or decreasing rest periods over time.
